Dieting can be both physically and mentally taxing. Sometimes, pesky cravings can get the best of us if we are not prepared. I often get the question, “What do you do if you’re having bad cravings?” I have many go-to snacks and drinks to satisfy my taste buds.
My first bit of advice— if you are having a craving, or if you think you’re hungry even though you recently ate, try drinking water. We often get thirst confused with hunger.
If you are still experiencing a craving, you can also try some of the following snacks.
Craving something salty?
Try Dill pickles! These crispy little guys are very low in calories and will satisfy your taste buds.
What about a iceberg lettuce salad? Top it with your own “dressing” mix of soy sauce, ginger and sweetener. I also like to use that dressing recipe on my Miracle Noodles (very low-calorie food).
Celery sticks dipped in mustard can also be a great snack!
Craving something sweet?
Try sugar-free Jell-O! This is a great alternative to a dessert. Try topping with a few tablespoons of Cool Whip Free! You can even add fruit inside of the Jell-O. Be creative! I like to layer my flavors of Jell-O for a fun pop of color.
Chewing gum is also a great alternative to sweets. They make so many flavors these days to accommodate to any preference! Not only is (sugar-free) gum low in calories, it is said to burn a small amount of calories from the constant chewing motion. There are also great sugar-free mints on the market as well— any flavor from minty to fruity!
One of my personal favorites is sliced cucumber with stevia sprinkled on top! It may sound like a strange combo, but it has satisfied my sweet tooth many times.
Looking for something refreshing?
Try LaCriox sparkling waters with a few stevia drops mixed in.
How about an amino acid drink? I love mixing my Gaspari Nutrition Aminolast powder in a blender with ice. It almost tastes like a slushie!
Craving energy?
Let’s not forget about the classics, tea and coffee! I love a good iced Americano with vanilla stevia and a small amount of creamer. I also love my chai tea with the same additives.
Remember to keep a few of your favorite diet savers handy so that you don’t give in to those pesky cravings! And remember, everything in moderation.
