How about a delicious dessert that contains ingredients that may assist in fat burning and increasing energy expenditure? Does this appeal to you? I’m sure it does is for most of us that currently, or are in the process of, pursuing fitness as a way of life! While exercise, a healthy diet and smart supplement regimen are the crucial components to this goal, there are certain thermogenic aids that we can incorporate to help our cause.
Thermogenic supplements are created to increase heat through metabolic stimulation, which in turn, increases our energy expenditure and our potential ability to burn fat. Ultimately, the rate at which the body metabolizes fat cells determines how quickly we can gain or lose weight. Thermogenic products are great to assist in this process, but be sure to consult your physician before incorporating into your program.
In addition to thermogenic supplements, there are certain foods and spices that have been shown to increase thermogenesis. In actuality, all foods are “thermogenic,” because the body must use energy to digest them, however, not all foods elicit the same thermic effect. Lean protein from solid food sources has the most thermic effect, while fat has the least. This recipe features the following foods and spices that have been deemed to be elevate thermogenesis:
• LEAN PROTEIN from Greek yogurt and protein powder
• GREEN TEA contains two substances — caffeine, and polyphenols called catechins, which have been shown to boost thermogensis and may enhance each other’s effects.
• CINNAMON may help to boost your metabolism, and it also has impressive benefits for blood sugar regulation, making it an ideal seasoning for people with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Cinnamon has been found to significantly reduce blood sugar levels, triglycerides, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels in people with type-2 diabetes. It has also been found to increase glucose metabolism by about 20 times, which would significantly improve your ability to regulate blood sugar.
THERMOGENIC RECIPE: BERRY GREEN TEA FROZEN YOGURT
Ingredients
1 frozen banana
3/4 cup 2% Greek yogurt, frozen (use ice cube tray)
1/3 cup almond milk
1.5 tsp. matcha green tea powder
3 TB vanilla protein powder (a blend of casein and whey works best)
1/8 tsp. salt
1/3 cup granulated stevia
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 tsp. vanilla extract
1/3 cup fresh raspberries
How to Prepare (so easy!)
1 In advance, spoon the Greek yogurt into an ice cube tray and freeze. This will make it easier to break down and blend smoothly.
2 Once yogurt is frozen, put all ingredients except for the berries into a high-powered blender or food processor and blend until mixture is smooth and creamy. Note: depending upon the protein powder used, you might need to add a bit more almond milk in order to blend smooth. If necessary, add 1 TB at a time until smooth creamy texture is reached.
3 Divide into 3 serving dishes and top with fresh raspberries. Enjoy!
