Fridge Peek: Callie Bundy

Diet Secrets From Our August Cover Girl

In our August issue (available now), our cover model and IFBB Bikini Pro Callie Bundy demonstrates a Fabulous Flat Abs workout to build strength and make that six-pack pop. But another key component to revealing those abs is a healthy diet. Lucky for us, Callie let us take a peek inside her fridge! Take a look at how Callie stays in top shape.

Where do you do most of your grocery shopping?
I have a trifecta— it’s Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Costco.

How do you shop— with a list, always buying the same things, or do you just wander and get what interests you in the moment?
I pretty much always buy the same things. The only time I get to wander and make impulse buys is usually the week after a show.

Do you struggle at all with clean eating?
Normally no, but when I do I know it’s time to mix it up.

Your fridge is full of Fuel Meals. Tell us a little bit about how it works and why you like it so much.
I have always done my own food prep, shopped for it, prepped it, cooked it, weighed and packed it, etc. I just started using Fuel Meals a few months ago and it’s amazing! The time it saves is crazy, not just from a cooking standpoint but the food shopping as well. Every week, I order exactly what my diet requires. For example, if one meal is 4 ounces of chicken, with one-third cup of rice and one cup of broccoli, I order that along with other meals. It arrives at my door frozen and ready to go, and after years of doing it myself, I can’t tell you how awesome that is [laughing].

In the freezer, tell us about what is on the door (besides the Fuel Meals).
I have frozen grass-fed bison and organic chicken.

What Arctic Zero flavor is that? Which is your favorite and how often do you have Arctic Zero?
I bought these after my last show; I’ve never had them before that. But I love the cookies and cream, I like to put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds and add some whip cream… it’s like heaven in your pie hole.

I see green beans and broccoli in the freezer. Are these your favorite go-to veggies or do you like to switch it up? Do you usually buy your veggies frozen?
I have frozen broccoli and green beans— I almost always buy these frozen. Buying them frozen helps keep their nutrients longer than buying them fresh. I buy these in bulk at Costco because I eat so much of them— it’s like 8 bucks a bag and that usually lasts me about three to four weeks, so along with being healthier it also helps keep the cost down.

Do you always buy organic?
I think it’s just like eating; it’s not about being perfect but always trying to make better choices at least 80 percent of the time. So whenever possible I will buy organic, but I don’t get crazy with it. If I’m somewhere and it’s not an option, I consider that part of my 20 percent and keep it moving.

Looking in the fridge— you have a lot of egg whites! How do you usually prepare these?
Yes [laughing], a few ways. Normally I blend them with oatmeal and make a protein pancake, which is my favorite! Or I will just dump them in a pan with some spinach and a couple slices of Ezekiel bread. Or, I just like to drink… I know I’m like the female Rocky [laughing]. But I love it, just chilled right in a glass and down the hatch!

What is in the orange packaging on the left as well as the purple packaging above it?
Ezekiel English muffins and Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread— two of my favorites!

Next to that, tell us about that Thai green curry sauce and what you use it for.
Love that stuff; it’s from Trader Joe’s and I use it on almost everything. I cut it out like two weeks before a show because of sodium, but otherwise it’s a great mild sauce that adds a good amount of flavor.

What other condiments do you like?
I like mustards! I am always checking out food stores for interesting mustards; they’re hard to find, especially when you look at the labels. I like to only buy things with ingredients that I can pronounce and actually know what it is. I figure if I don’t know what it is, chance are my body won’t either— so how would it know how to process it?

What’s in the container next to that Thai green curry sauce? And in the plastic next to that?
That is grass-fed bison cooked with taco seasoning. Post-show I’ve been putting it on the Ezekiel English muffin, like a healthier sloppy joe— SO good.

What is Sea Essentials and why do you use it?
I love that stuff, tastes great, too. As it says, it’s from the sea and contains a ton of minerals and vitamins that you might not normally get or don’t get enough of.

I see Parmesan cheese, what do you use that for?
Don’t really use it too often, but it’s one of those things you can have cause it lasts. And randomly if I feel like it, I’ll throw it on eggs or a salad.

Tell us about what is in the drawers.
Pretty much just lots of veggies, like cucumbers, peppers, spinach, also apples and some wraps.

Is there anything that you typically will have in your fridge/freezer that’s not there at the moment?
No, if anything, as this is post-show, there are things in there now I wouldn’t normally have [laughing].

Do you have a favorite healthy recipe?
I don’t really do recipes, but I would say my egg white, oatmeal pancake is my favorite if you want to count that as a recipe: one cup egg whites, one-half cup oatmeal, sea salt and cinnamon, blended up, then just throw it in a pan and enjoy your protein pancake!
