At the beginning of Nanette’s fitness journey, she was diabetic and dealing with numerous physical and health issues. On her way to losing the 129 lbs, she continually hit barriers. Yet, with our guidance and her amazing attitude, she did it and continues to maintain the new healthy, strong way of life.
No one understands. Not our husbands, boyfriends, younger girlfriends or kids. Hitting our 40’s seems to be a multitude of whammies. Starting with the metabolism slowing down, hormones fluctuating, hair thinning, skin sagging, muscle loss and then comes what people don’t expect…DEPRESSION.
The skin above our knees can sag for several reasons, but generally age (of course) is the ugly little monster behind it. This looseness of the skin stems from a loss of elastic fibers, collagen and muscle mass, which naturally occurs as we age.
I love to train hard, push my limits and defy the expectations of my age group. So, nothing warms my heart like hearing, “Are you sure you should be doing that at your age?”
I fear the day that I wake up, look in the mirror and realize that it has finally happened: the dreaded lizard look has set upon my skin. That leathery, wrinkled, sagging, discolored look of aged skin. You remember the not so young older lady from the movie, “There’s Something About Mary?” I assure you that I will not let that day come, and nor should it for you!
If you ask me, the proper term for menopause should be “demon-o-pause.” Any woman currently going through the “change” would attest to the fact menopause literally turns your life into a constant outer body experience.
Summer’s warm weather is quickly coming to an end, so on with the long sleeves and sweaters, right? That’s one way to cover up that flab on the back of our arms we call “bat wings.” However, let’s not forget that following fall comes winter. Winter brings holiday parties.
