Working out can make you feel younger, give you energy and shape a great looking physique. But, no matter how healthy we eat and how physically fit we are, we can’t avoid aging altogether, especially as it relates to our skin. That said, even though the birthdays will keep rolling in year after year, we CAN slow down the aging process by properly taking care of our skin and using high quality, anti-aging products.
We all have different priorities. I’ll admit for a while I became so focused on building, toning and shaping my body that I put my skin on the back burner. That’s a big NO-NO, because we can’t wait until we see drama on the skin to take action. As with your health, prevention is key for keeping your skin looking youthful—so starting the anti-aging process early is ideal.
As you know, there is no magic solution, pill or cream that will eliminate lines and wrinkles forever—if there was, I would tell ALL of you. However, if you can guard your skin against the environment and free radicals, you can slow down the process and age with finesse.
Below are some of my tips and my must-have products for maintaining your youthful skin:
Commit to a Cleansing Regimen. Always wash your face when you wake up, before bed and after a workout. I use a gentle face wash during the day. Before bed, I use a salicylic tea tree face wash, which my dermatologist recommended for MY skin type. Using the right face wash for your skin is important. If you use the wrong wash, it can cause breakouts and/or excessive moisture loss.
Moisturize & Protect. Keep your skin moisturized. Dry skin ages faster and can be prone to breakouts. It’s all about balance and using products that work well together. Avoid being in the sun unless you are protected with a good sunscreen. Don’t forget that our skin is an essential Organ—we must treat it with love.
Vitamin C, Zinc & Titanium. My top two must-haves products for skin protection are a Vitamin C serum and sunscreen, which should both be used every morning. Vitamin C, which is a free-radical fighter and helps you produce collagen naturally, should be applied after cleansing. Following the serum, apply a sunscreen that contains zinc or titanium, which provide physical defenses against sun exposure.
Eye Cream. My third must-have is an eye cream. Delicate areas need delicate care. I absolutely love Lumiere eye cream by NeoCutis . I put it on at night before bed. Retrinal Eyes by Avene is good also and is a bit more cost effective. Eye creams usually last about 3-4 months.
The three must haves I have listed work for most people; however, it’s always best to consult with your dermatologist to ensure you are using the best products for YOUR skin type.
Girls, we take good care of the bootys, the hair, the nails…we also HAVE to take care of our skin. Regardless of your age, it’s never too early or too late to start.
