Experiencing stress at work happens almost daily. You may have a deadline to meet, a grumpy boss or a demanding client that infuse tension into your workday. That said, there is no way to get rid of stress completely, so it’s how you respond to it that matters.
Exercise is one of the best natural ways to relieve stress. It increases endorphins and releases tension. Exercises will not only alleviate stress, but it can contribute to your overall health and feeling of well-being. That said, it’s not very easy to break out into a high-intensity plyometrics routine in the middle of the office when stress escalates. So, what can you do? I recommend these simple stretches to get your blood flowing and the tension tamed:
Neck Roll. Take a few deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly. Close your eyes, drop your chin to your chest and slowly roll your head to the right shoulder and then slowly to the left shoulder. Repeat 3-5 times.
Seated Arch and Round. Start with feet flat on the floor and hands onto your knees. Inhale and arch your back looking up toward the ceiling. Exhale and round the spine while letting your head drop forward. Repeat 3-5 times.
Forward Bend. Start with both feet flat on the floor. Interlace your fingers behind your back. Lean forward towards your knees by bending at the waist and raising your arms straight up into the air. Rest your chin on your legs and release the tension in the neck.
Back Twist. Face forward with both feet flat on the floor. Slowly twist to the right at the waist holding on to the back of the chair exhaling. Inhale as you return to the front. Repeat by exhaling to the left holding on to the back of the chair giving your spine a nice stretch.
Other ways you can fit in a little exercise at the office include taking the stairs in your office building, standing up for phone calls or going on short walks.
When having a stressful workday, always remember there is an EASY solution! Give yourself five minutes of stress-relieving techniques at the desk! Exercises that can be done at your desk can offer some instant relief for your body and mind. Stay dedicated and determined and always remember…“the Skye’s the LIMIT!”
