When it comes to working out and eating right, I usually stick to the basics— clean foods, and exercising five days a week. But lately I’ve been stuck at a plateau and have been frustrated with my lack of results. So I felt like maybe I needed a little boost!
Emerge is fat-loss drink mix from Max Muscle Sports Nutrition that’s meant to promote weight loss while enhancing mood and focus. It sounded intriguing, so I thought I would give it a try. However, I have to admit that I was a little nervous. I’m not one to usually take too many supplements. Although I do drink a cup of coffee every morning, I’m very sensitive to caffeine (I’m that person who’s up until 4:00 a.m. after having a late afternoon cup). Not only that, I have a very sensitive stomach.
That being said, caffeine has been shown to increase fat burning, reduce bodyweight, enhance energy and more. There are 300 milligrams of caffeine in a serving of Emerge, and typical cup of coffee contains between 90 and 200 milligrams, so this made me feel a little better (still the first time I tried Emerge, I had half a dose, just to be sure!). In addition, Emerge contains the patented ingredient Advantra Z®, an extract of citrus fruit that has been shown to increase the breakdown of fat, improve athletic performance and more. Other fat-burning and performance-enhancing ingredients include L-carnitine, green tea extract, panax ginseng and more.
One issue I have is cravings. I can be really good with my diet all day, but as soon as 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. hits, I feel the need for sugar and/or chocolate. The problem for me is that I often also have days where I feel the need to snack all day long, and it just seems like my appetite can’t be satisfied!
It’s crazy to me how fast Emerge worked to remedy this. In fact, I noticed after the first time I had it. Cravings were nonexistent, and my snacking was reduced. Better yet, I noticed that my nighttime cravings for chocolate also went away. Amazing!
Alertness and Focus
The first time tried Emerge, I had half a dose at about 2:00 in the afternoon. Typically, I am more of a morning person when it comes to being motivated and completing work tasks. By 2:00, my focus is usually beginning to subside. But with just half a dose of Emerge, I almost immediately noticed how my alertness improved! I finished writing an article, did some editing and before I knew it, I looked up at the clock and it was 6:00! I got so much work done during a time when I’m usually starting to lose focus. And the best part was, I wasn’t jittery at all. With my caffeine-sensitivity, it was incredible to me that I didn’t feel any adverse effects.
Plus, my sleep patterns were not affected at all. On the Emerge box, it advises you to not take it after 6:00 p.m. Since I’m so caffeine sensitive, I followed this and I had no trouble with getting to sleep. In fact, a few times a week, I started having a full-dose of Emerge in the morning instead of my regular cup of coffee— not only was this quick and convenient, it also woke me up and prepared me for a full day of work.
After a few days of using Emerge, I decided to try it as a pre-workout. My issue with working out is usually lack of energy, and for this reason I typically work out at night during the week because that’s when I feel I get better workouts. But on Saturday mornings, I do a 10 a.m. kickboxing class that I absolutely love, because it’s an hour of intense cardio, weight training and core work. The problem for me is that even 10 a.m. can be a challenge to find the energy to work out.
I figured trying Emerge before kickboxing would be the ultimate test. I took it about 30 minutes before the class, and it was great! I can’t remember the last time I had so much energy and stamina through all the cardio drills. I felt that I got a really good workout in, without any side effects whatsoever.
I have to be honest— I don’t use a scale to measure my weight loss because I feel I don’t get an accurate read. Instead, I pay close attention to my body and how I’m feeling, and always can tell when I lose weight or gain. With that being said, I have been using Emerge a few times a week for about two weeks now, and my clothes are definitely getting looser! I feel tighter and just a little bit more toned. I feel that Emerge is helping me to realize my hard work in the gym. Not only that, it gives me the fuel and power to get through those tough workouts, so that I can see the results that I’ve been missing.
