Cruciferous vegetables, which include cauliflower, cabbage, cress, and broccoli, contain a chemical called Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) that may promote weight control. Taiwanese researchers, in a study on genetically obese mice, found that supplementing the diet with I3C reduced weight, body fat, blood sugar, insulin, and markers of inflammation. Cruciferous vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet and have been linked to the prevention of cancer and heart disease. This study showed that they might also promote fat loss.
